Power door lock revival.

The locks were not broken. They were just old, dry, stubborn, and in desperate need of lubricant therapy.

Quick summary

Mission: revive the power locks.

The power locks were struggling because the latch and lock mechanisms had become stiff over the years. Removing the door panels and lubricating the mechanisms brought the system back to life.

Tools & supplies

Patience: old clips enjoy drama.
Step-by-step

Reviving the door locks.

Step 01

Remove the door panel.

Work slowly and protect the old trim pieces.

Step 02

Inspect the latch and rods.

Find the moving parts the power lock motor has to fight.

Step 03

Clean visible grime.

Wipe away old dirt and crusty buildup where possible.

Step 04

Lubricate the latch mechanism.

Apply white lithium grease to moving joints and latch points.

Step 05

Work the lock manually.

Move it repeatedly so lubricant spreads through the mechanism.

Step 06

Test the power locks.

Check whether the motor can now move the lock smoothly.

Step 07

Repeat on other doors.

Each door gets its own little spa day.

Step 08

Reinstall the panels.

Put everything back and enjoy the revived thunk.

Sometimes the solution is not electronics. Sometimes the solution is making the ancient mechanical bits less crunchy.

Biggest lesson

When power locks struggle, check the mechanical resistance before blaming the motors or wiring.

Final goal

Smooth satisfying lock operation with proper 1980s Chrysler thunk energy.

The locks live again.

A little lubrication, a little patience, and the wagon feels fancy.
